Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky is the story of who Coco Chanel really was and what inspired her. Continuing from Coco Before Chanel the year is 1913 and Coco Chanel meets Igor Stravinsky for the first time at his controversial and – at the time – much jeered and booed The Rite of Spring, a revolutionary work considered too modern and radical. A near riot ensues and Stravinsky is inconsolable. Seven years pass as Coco Chanel continues to grow her brand when she meets Stravinsky in Paris again. The attraction is immediate and electric. Now a penniless refugee living in exile after the Russian revolution, Stravinsky is invited to reside at Chanel’s villa where he moves in with his children and consumptive wife. And so a passionate and intense love affair between the two creative giants begins…Starring CHANEL muse Anna Mouglalis and acclaimed actor Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale; Valhalla Rising) the production was supported by Karl Lagerfeld and the producers granted full access to the CHANEL archives to accurately recreate the period and Coco Chanel’s celebrated apartment at 31, Rue Cambon, Paris.

The film is elegant to look at. The fashions are almost inevitably are flawless and chic. The performances are well-modulated to project exactly what the director, Jan Kounen, wants to say about these two people. He depends on performance because neither is given to self-analysis or revelation, and most of their meetings are in some way negotiations. As for Katarina, well, what can she do? She stays out of love for her children and out of undoubted respect for her husband’s genius.
